For over 33 years the Town Players of New Canaan has sponsored a full theatre program for young people at the Powerhouse Performing Arts Center in Waveny Park.
Workshops include pantomime, improvisation, theatre games and scene work, with a staged performance for friends and family at the end of each session. Of the three sessions that run yearly, two are weekly after school sessions, and one is a three week summer camp. All activities are on the stage of our 115-seat working theatre.
Check or credit cards accepted. Registration due on first day of class.
Student Stageshop is a nine week after school workshop for new or aspiring young actors.
Classes run once a week from September 11th trough November 15th.
Classes finish with a performance for family and friends on the final class day.
The time of the performance is usually discussed with the cast within the first few rehearsals.
Most Performances are scheduled in early evening to offer working family members a chance to join.
All Students perform on stage.
We strive to have a fun and enjoyable experience for all by working with, and encouraging each actor at their level of skill.
Some of the things we will do each week is practice the play, work on memory and memorizing skills, play rhythm games, learn acting terminology, pantomime, focus on body language, enunciation games, and vocalization.
Theater doors are open 15 minutes prior to class. we ask that drop-off be no earlier, as there may not be an adult at the theater to watch students prior to that time.
