Thornton Wilder’s characters could have lived anywhere, in any era. Any town could be Our Town. The story has universal appeal wherever performed.
Still, we think New Canaan is an ideal place to perform the play. We’re struck with how similar New Canaan in 1902 must have been to the fictional New England town of Grover’s Corners, particularly the architecture.
To confirm this, we asked photographer Mike Guthman to find images that evoke the historic, small town New England, setting of the play.
Mikes images will be on display in the Powerhouse Theatre lobby during Our Town’s run.
Here are a few of his photos.
